What causes spider veins?
While the exact cause(s) of spider veins are not known, we have seen factors such as age, UV exposure (sun) and pressure on the vein walls such as during pregnancy, weight gain and hormonal changes during pregnancy, breast feeding and menopause as contributing factors. Skin conditions such as Rosacea or redness in the skin also leading to facial spider veins.
Who gets spider veins?
Nearly all women at some stage of their life will get them. While exact figures are not kept, estimates are roughly 20% of women in their 20’s will have them, rising to approximately 50% in their 40’s and 70% in their 50’s.
